i have tried a lot of fixes for 2 weeks then found your post.
I opened a cmd window (as administrator) in the new protected folder (C:\42c85776e1df4d1b8b5495) and did a directory to find the *.xml file, which is the command file for the Package Manager After that, I could install all other missing critical updates through the Windows Update applet in the Control panel. In my case, the HP printer update will not install, and I will now try to at least hide the pesky reminder.

You state, "I don't even own the printer." Try the following: In Windows 10, search for "Device Manager". Step 1: Stop Windows Update service. I followed what you said on your website after i done it im still waiting for windows update and its still running now its almost 1 hour now. My WU just goes off looking for updates and just hangs, and slowing down the CPU.
