Correspondent "Snake" restored powerdown functioning by disabling his CD-ROM's AutoRun feature. There is a "hot fix" for this available from Microsoft. (Reference: MSKB 330172.) SP1 + AMBIENT HAM MODEM + POSSIBLE IRQ ISSUE. This is an old game.
