I've had the SP3 problem and although I'm a software support technician for a large software company (not MS tho)have spent 5 hours tryin to fix this bloody problem but after I'm using the two CD set and I get the software installed fine and begin all of the Windows Updates. OK. I cut and pasted the code. The problem with Safe Mode is that it isn't an alternate operating system; rather, it's a watered down version of the OS that you are trying to repair.

To restore your computer to Factory Condition you need those CD's. Then by all means, create those recovery disks and restore that PC with them. Thanks for figuring this out, it working now! You will be prompted for the Administrator's password. I don't think Windows installer will ask for CD2 during the repair install, since media center is already installed, but if it does just do as the Windows installer directs. .
