I found an easy workaround is install on a smaller drive, install SP6, set EnableBigLBA, then make a backup with Acronis True Image (google for "free acronis true image.) Then attach However, after trying this on 4 different machines,(3 desktops and a laptop) it only seems to recognize EIDE drives, not the SATA that I want to repair.

When plugging it into my blu-ray it is bring up the setup option only and not allowing me to select movies, music or photo files. Bottom line After seeing the three major reasons, you might have a basic understanding of how to solve the 746GB available of the 3TB drive issue. i can swap the hard drive and it will boot up again. - ive fixed all the hard drive into position and attached all the cables. Please remove it manually in the Device Manager and try it again. It did not boot up in my Win 7 32-bit machine and it did not show up in My Computer.

This would be caused by the Master Boot Record (MBR or Partition Sector) being bad or corrupt. It doesn't show up in My Computer, however when I go to Disk Management, a box pops up asking me to initialize the Disk.

I tried slipstreaming SP6 and presetting the EnableBigLBA registry fix. And, if you have no idea about data recovery solution, you can try using MiniTool Power Data Recovery.
