Point 2 in bobcook's checking description i'm not able to understand. It has just done that during its scheduled scan this morning. Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze.

The Sophos log indicated some corrupt files in a cache. There is no perfect defence, but on the other hand, I don't see how AV scanners detract from system safety, unless poorly designed. I think your perspective that an antivirus is "useless" and "does more harm than good" is rather subjective. Such messages must be deleted from within the Mail application. I told Sophos to clean up the threat and I also deleted the mailfile from my Mac.
